Ferry Pointers for Otters Ponders

ferry_pointersIt’s an adventure, this ferry system and the ride from Anacortes to Orcas Island and return. The ferry ride is part of your wonderful exposure to island life and island time. Getting here is definitely half the fun but requires some planning. Here are some important pointers for you to ponder when planning your visit with us:

  • Make your ferry plans early and don’t be daunted by the process—it’s really easier than it appears and there’s really plenty of space so hang in there as you go through the tiered release of ferry slots.
  • Use the online system and establish an account to help you move as quickly as possible through the reservation steps. Alternatively, though much slower, you can use the Call Center. Hours are 5:00 AM – 8:15 PM, seven days a week.
If you are in Washington, call 1-888-808-7977. If you are out of state, call 206-464-6400.
  • Summer season reservations for the Anacortes-San Juan Islands route:
    • The first 30% of reservable space is released on April 14 (two months before the summer season, which is June 14-September 19).
    • An additional 30% of space is released at 7:00 AM two weeks before the sailing date.
    • The final 30% of space is released at 7:00 AM two days before the sailing date.
  • Fall season reservations for the Anacortes-San Juan Islands route:
    • The first 30% of reservable space is released on July 20 (two months before the fall season, which is September 20-December 26).
    • An additional 30% of space is released at 7:00 AM two weeks before the sailing date.
    • The final 30% of space is released at 7:00 AM two days before the sailing date.
  • No Reservation? No problem. Often times, standby space is available. If you are traveling at the last minute or are unable to make a reservation, you can travel standby.
  • For the Anacortes–San Juan Islands sailing, you need to be in the tollbooth line 30-90 minutes before your reserved sailing.
